From 4th June to 20th July and within the framework of the Fifth International Solidarity Action, sponsored by the Swiss Institute in Rome, takes place the Congress of Designers. Initiated by Pawe? Althamer, at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Berlin, as part of the Berlin Biennial, the Congress of Designers attempts to bring together the artists and the public to a conversation with each other, using the language of images instead of words. Everyone was invited to join the conversation through paintings, charcoal drawings, collage or by using other traditional techniques and materials, and eventually respond without hesitation to current issues related to politics, symbols of power, religion, economic crisis and more.
Althamer has invited the people to talk freely and honestly. Civil or politically incorrect, frustrated or angry, anyone can intervene on the designs of others, through a genuine confrontation and opposition of images. Either cherished or despicable images, shared opinions or statements these images bear, all participants are encouraged to express themselves freely.
