BOOKS2015 ✎ CHOISI ARTPHILEIN EDITIONS

We decided in 2013 to create our own publishing house Artphilein Editions and to collaborate actively with the artists in the planning, drafting and creation of distinctive artist's books. The artists chosen are often at their first experience with an artist's book. The editorial line of Artphilein Edition comprises also books on artists and works in our collection.

Salt Manual, Esther Mathis

Limited edition of 500 | 21×14, 8 cm | 56 pag. | € 25

This publication is about participation and process. It offers the reader instructions for how to install and care for a “salt crystal drawing”. There is no defined producer in this process. It offers a diversification of the singularity of authorship; because salt will always return to salt.

TO E.R.

To E.R. is an homage to the Twentysix Gasoline Stations, a work realised by American artist Ed Ruscha. The artist explored the landscape of Canton Ticino in search of service stations that were abandoned or converted to other uses, which could be photographed in the same way as the original ones, specifically, frontally, maintaining the same proportions and distances (as closely as possible, depending on the width of the roadways or the surrounding walls…) and, without people. To E.R. includes 26 colour photographs taken with an optical bench (C-prints on Kodak Endura Premier N paper for the images that accompany the book in the special edition) under the light conditions present at the moment when winter turns into spring.

LIFE Milano, 600 anni di cronaca nera milanese, Fabio Tasca

Limited edition of 500 | 35×27, 5 cm | 60 pag. | € 30

The book features a series of black&white night photographs taken in Milan from 2000 to 2013. The intent of the work is to immortalize the places marked by acts of violence, crimes, ‘misdeeds’ or events which the City of Milan prefers not to be proud of or that has merely forgotten. The book borrows its shape and design from the famous magazine “LIFE”.

Hypnero, Laura Santamaria

Numbered and signed edition of 250 | 23.5×80.5 cm | € 45

This is the first artist’s book of the Italian artist Laura Santamaria. The book “Hypnero” stems from the dialogue of the artist with Caterina De Pietri and Elide Brunati, who invited and guided her into a linguistic and expressiv territory never explored by her. The artist’s book is a new step of the research on pigments, which Laura Santamaria started since 2004, with her project “M.1” for the Sala dell’Annunziata in Imola.

DNA , Carlos Bunga

Limited edition of 500 | 18.5×12.5 cm | 130 pag. | € 30

This book is not a finished document, but an open space to questioning things and was made by the artist to function as a dictionary or botanical conceptual document with the intention of not being a representation of his work but rather an approximation to his thought. The artist is interested in the uniqueness and complexity of each DNA and how we can not have access to all the information we have stored.
