How was working together? If I look at your researches are pretty different.

Nicolina Eklund: Researches might differ, but we land somewhere on the same conclusion- there’s a crazy bitch inside the both os us, that I’m damn proud of. The collaboration was running so smooth because OF our differences, we don’t step on each others fields, meaning more room for the both os us, it’s lovely and free.

The curatorial text and the project are a novel. Which role do you feel to assume inside of it?

N.E: The story came forth mostly through us emailing each other about what we wanted to express, poetically and visually. I saw our collective memory bank taking shape into a pink brainstem that inevitably crept into me, because I invited it, I channelled it. In a sense it was all for me, I am the broken diva and the stage was mine. In another sense, I was just decor.

ATPdiary: How was the relation with the public space during the performance Nico?

N.E.: It was the first time for me to do this sort of thing, where most people who see it aren’t a part of the bubble. Edicola is a small satellite of art between street vendors and tourists drunk on overpriced spritz. Together with the average Italian grandmother they are not my most common spectator. It was hard to rehearse at the scene and even harder to predict anything unwanted that could happen in such an environment, it’s scary as hell. I had to change into my costume at the toilet of a bar close by, and there was no place to get pumped or make my pre-performance ritual. I had nowhere to hide, which I normally do a lot before a performance. I hide and have a small cocktail. This time it was more game on and straight in the face of an unexpected crowd. People on the other side of the river, who had no idea of the context, just saw a woman in her underwear throwing five kilos of pearls into the water. I highly recommend it.

ATPdiary: Come ti sei rapportata all’architettura dell’edicola Ottavia?
