(English text below)

Abbiamo fatto alcune domande all’artista.

Perché sei interessato a questi particolari mezzi?

On May 28 at Galleria Fonti in Napoli inaugurated tais-toi accélérationiste!, third solo show of French artist Fabian Marti with the gallery.

We asked some questions to the artist.

ATP: Let’s start from the title of the show, “tais-toi accélérationiste!”. Why did you choose it?

Fabian Marti: Whenever I read texts or statements by so called accelerationists it always strikes me how much their arguments resemble marxist theory. They are very much similar in the sense that the so called accelarationists seem to have a vision of a better future, that the salvation comes with progress, and that the exponential growth of technology will somehow make capitalism obsolete, that it will fade out. At least that’s what I read in their texts. I’m very much intrigued by this as it ties in with similar ideas by the transhumanist movement or the thinking around the singularity, both subjects that I’m very much interested in. But the title is a mutation of a line out of Godard’s “Masculin-Feminin”, where Paul, the main protagonist played by Léaud, sits in the movie theater with his girlfriend Madeleine, the french singer played by Chantal Goya, when he feels disturbed by the noise coming from the back, he turns around and shouts: “tais-toi trotzkiste!“, or at least that was what I remembered. But recently when I rewatched that scene he shouts „ca va trotzkiste!“ so maybe the show should have been called „ca va, accélérationiste!“

ATP: The press release is a socio-anthropological text written by Dr. Paul J. Ennis. Why did you choose this particular author? What’s the connection between the show and this text?

FM: Trough reading the books „The conspiracy against the human race“ by Thomas Ligotti or Eugene Thacker’s „In the dust of this planet“, and talking about the books I was directed to Paul by a friend of mine who also provided me with Paul’s essays. I’m not so sure if I agree with Ennis’ anti natalist views but I thought they would fit the show. My new egg photograms, rather than resonating life, they seem to be in a state of nothingness.

ATP: You’re showing a new series of works made with photogram technique and drawings on paper. Why are you interested in these particular mediums?

FM: I’ve been working with the photogram technic for quite some time now, for me it is an interesting way to bring together the digital with the analog, as most of the material that I use to place on the photographic paper is created on the computer. This was after I extensively used the scanner for making images, by placing objects directly on the glass, to me this was a contemporary form of the photogram process. After the scanning I thought “Why not use an anachronistic technic to make the works for the now?”.

Until July 31.
